I was called in last week for a machine down at O’Ryan Industries, one of my customers. They have a Sumitomo SH220A hydraulic injection molding machine that quit working during mold set, or mold space adjustment.
Upon coming in and looking at the machine I determined that it had come to far forward and was jammed against the roller guide blocks. The limit switch had not activated which would have stopped it from crashing. I called Sumitomo and they told me which outputs to change to increase the pressure allowed to reverse away from the blocks. This did not work so instead I removed the guide blocks and reversed the machine hydraulics. Afterwards the limit switches were adjusted to prevent this in the future.
The machine was up and going within the hour.
