I was on site for process consulting and trouble shooting of a customers mold. They had some issues with gate blush and unbalanced parts in a family mold or 1+1 mold with unlike parts. for more detail in how I come about troubleshooting a problematic mold please read the process page on this site.

By following the scientific molding principles I was able to properly locate the injection stage for the gate area of the part and therefore control the speed of flow for the ABS material and eliminate the gate blush.

Another issue they were having was improper packing of one of the parts. One part was flashing and the other had sink marks (pits or areas that look like shallow pot holes.) This particular mold had good sprue, and runner size, although the gate size was not optimal. It is more difficult to determine proper gate size with dissimilar parts as they have different weights and wall thickness. I suggested we focus on the under filled part only instead of adjusting both sides. The larger part had gates that were under specification for depth and width. The gate depth determines the seal off time and the width determines the amount of volume that can be flowed. I had the customer increase the width by 50% as the optimal depth is usually 80% of wall thickness and width is 150% of gate depth.

Upon putting the mold back in the machine the parts were now balanced and issues resolved. The packing time had been reduced by 50% or 20 seconds reducing the cycle time by 5 seconds and significantly reducing the machine power usage. It was now sitting under no load in a cooling stage instead of applying pressure during a longer than normal packing stage. I also had the customer remove some of the loops in the cooling lines as the parts were dissipating a lot of heat into the mold which was not being removed.

I was called in last week for a machine down at O’Ryan Industries, one of my customers. They have a Sumitomo SH220A hydraulic injection molding machine that quit working during mold set, or mold space adjustment.

Upon coming in and looking at the machine I determined that it had come to far forward and was jammed against the roller guide blocks. The limit switch had not activated which would have stopped it from crashing. I called Sumitomo and they told me which outputs to change to increase the pressure allowed to reverse away from the blocks. This did not work so instead I removed the guide blocks and reversed the machine hydraulics. Afterwards the limit switches were adjusted to prevent this in the future.

The machine was up and going within the hour.

Yes designs for Rwanda Orphans but not in the form of plastic parts, as I don’t believe they are in need of electronic enclosures. GeForce Technologies has been working with a church committee in effort to transform a village into a self sustaining community. The designs are for signs that will be used in a Scramble for the Orphans Golf Tournament to raise money.

The websites with more information on what we are doing for Rwanda Orphans can be found at the following links.

http://www.stepintorwanda.org/

http://www.groproject.org/

http://lbnaz.org/ Church that organizes the project.

We have been working on designing some 30 signs. I feel blessed for the opportunity to be creative for a good cause. Ever since I went on a business mission trip last year to Jakarta, Indonesia I have had such a passion to help children who are suffering in other countries. This project definitely fills the need to help. I am praying that I get the opportunity to travel to Rwanda and help build schools and work in the community.

Growing up in America I have not witnessed the suffering of children that I saw in Jakarta and from what I have heard Jakarta does not compare to parts of Africa or even other parts of Indonesia. The impact it made on my life will always be remembered. I am more grateful and aware of how blessed my life is and the opportunity my family and business has to help people. My trip there was focused on giving businesses the tools they need to make an impact for God’s Kingdom by empowering themselves and their people to make a difference. It was a huge life changing experience for me through the friends I made while working there.

A rep client we where working with took a few of us to a place where he had been helping families who lived in a garbage dump. He had been helping the community financially, but not just by giving or enabling, he was teaching them to be self sustaining. You could see how the area he was working with was cleaner, it had gardens, and classrooms that the people where planting, building and cleaning themselves. At one time this particular area was garbage filled with no classrooms or gardens. It was awesome to see the difference that was being made through empowering the people who lived there.

Thank you for reading our blog and stay tuned for more about GeForce Technologies product development projects that we have been working on in addition to outreach.

I love to learn and believe in gathering as much knowledge as I can that will give me good return on investment. I have found twitter to be a powerful tool for focused topics and learning. One of the topics I have been actively learning and applying is SEO for my website. If you want to optimize your site and are curious of your rating I recommend doing a whois on this site. It will give you a lot of information about your site rating along with other info.

I also share an office building with Blink Source who is an expert on the topic.
